TITLE: Peer Specialist
PROGRAM: Community Based Flexible Supports (CBFS)
REPORTS TO: CBFS, LCSW
STATUS: Part Time (20 Hours)
SUMMARY: Under immediate to general supervision, the Peer Specialist provides peer support services, serves as a consumer advocate; provides consumer information and peer support for consumers in outpatient settings. The Peer Specialist performs a wide range of tasks to assist consumers in regaining control over their own lives and over their own recovery process. The Peer Specialist will role model competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in the assessment/IAP process with client consent.
- Co-lead support groups in health and wellness, co-occurring disorders, recovery planning, employment support, etc.
- Participate in the development of WRAP plans with clients and treatment teams.
- Help organize monthly social activities open to all CBFS clients.
- Help organize a warm line/ telephone tree for clients to assess mutual support.
- Participate in monthly management team meetings.
- Participate in monthly orientation/training of Direct Care staff.
- Participate in welcoming/outreach to new clients.
- Assist Direct Care staff in outreach to difficult to engage clients.
- Liason with Renaissance Club, Human Rights Committee.
- Advocate for CBFS services with other service agencies.
- Participate in anti stigma activities.
- Other duties, as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NECESSARY:
- Valid drivers license.
- Utilization of properly registered and insured personal vehicle to transport consumers.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Ability to climb stairs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability and willingness to abide by agency policies and procedures.
- Must be legally eligible for employment in the United States.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Current or former recipient of mental health services in any setting and a willingness to acknowledge this experience to consumers and others, as appropriate and High school diploma or GED.
